An extension of the alternate mark inversion (AMI) principle in which strings of zeros are replaced by code groups designed to improve the timing content of the signal. An example of a code formed according to this principle is B6ZS, in which any sequence of six zeros is represented by a code group readily recognized at the receiver because it contains AMI violations.
