An expression of the maximum signal power or voltage created by the scanning of the subject copy as measured at any point in a facsimile system. According to whether the system employs positive or negative modulation, this will correspond to picture white or black respectively. The level may be expressed in decibels with respect to some standard value, such as 1 milliwatt or 1 volt.
