In cryptography, a procedure using a block cipher in which the output ciphertext depends upon the key, the current and all previous plaintext blocks of the message. Chaining overcomes the cryptographic weakness of block ciphers, which arises when the length of the message exceeds the blocksize and the messages are highly formatted, or contain significant redundancy.
