A hard disk-shaped rotating surface that is coated with a magnetic substance that allows the disk to be used to store information in a computer system. Hard disks are housed in a disk drive which causes them to be rotated at extremely high speeds past read/write heads that facilitate the transfer of information to and from the disk.
