duplex computer

A pair of usually identical computers operating so that if and when one is shutdown for maintenance,improvements, checkout, etc., the other can operate without a reduction in capability of the total system. Use of each computer might alternate to provide time for preventive maintenance, or one might run relatively low priority problems or act as a slave to the other.
